Avatar (2009)
Porto Pi Centro, Sala 5,
Porto Pi, Palma

It might be impressive on a technical level but Avatar is an old story that’s been done many times before. The most expensive production ever trying to push a green message, hmmm? Unless you see it in 3D the general consensus is don’t bother, Dances with Wolves in space!
Sala 11- 16:30

A Serious Man, (2009)  - Renoir,
S’Escorxador complex, c/t Valldemossa, Palma Blending dark humor with profoundly personal themes, the Coen brothers deliver what might be their most mature - if not their best - film to date.

“The human comedy as portrayed in this film was never so cruel or so funny. “
Sala 4 - 18:10

Precious, (2009) - Renoir,
S’Escorxador complex, c/t Valldemossa, Palma   Set in Harlem in 1987, it is a vibrant, honest and resoundingly hopeful film about the human capacity to grow and overcome. The story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want.

Newly formed American band that are getting rave reviews having a sound and style that effortlessly move through Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, James Taylor and Paul Simon. Invictus, (2009) - Renoir,
S’Escorxador complex, c/t Valldemossa, Palma
Delivered with typically stately precision from director Clint Eastwood, Invictus may not be rousing enough for some viewers, but Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman inhabit their real-life characters with admirable conviction.

The Hurt Locker, (2009) - Renoir,
S’Escorxador complex, c/t Valldemossa, Palma
A riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military’s most unrecognized heroes: the technicians of the bomb squad, who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world’s most dangerous places.
Sala 4 - 15:50, 20:05, 22:25

Dinosaur Jr.
If you like your rock and roll with more twang and less roll then Mascis’ band could be the one for you. Having started out in 1985 and reformed in 2005 although with only one original member. I’m not sure if that actually qualifies. A band that will definitely appeal to the black t-shirt brigade.
Fri Feb 12 - 25€ - Sala Assaig, Palma
Sterlin.
Popular local band that will be performing songs from their forthcoming  album plus some of their classic tracks
