On May 14, 2011 the inaugural Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca will take place on the island.
The Spanish island, known as a training paradise to many cyclists and triathletes, will host a qualifying race for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship for the first time. The Ironman triathlon consists of 1.9 mile swim, 90 mile bike and 21.1 mile run all done continuously.
The race takes place in the north of Mallorca. The first part of the race the swim will be held in the habour area of Alcudia. Once having completed the water part of the race the competitors will pick up their bikes and take on a challenging bike course which will take them up some of the most steep mountain roads the island has to offer as well as taking them across long flat terrain.
Once the grueling swim and bike ride is completed then it’s on to the run and this will take the competitors on a flat course which will loop the wonderful beach of Alcudia 4 times and eventually finish in the harbor area of Alcudia. Make sure you go along and cheer these guys and girls from the sideline.
