Andratx to Esporles

Sponsored by Warriors Rent a Car

This circuit of the Western parts of Mallorca begins at the coast before turning inland where you'll drive through countryside, vineyards and olive groves before passing into the mountains where you come across some amazing mallorquin villages.

The route:

This drive will take at least 2 hours and starts in Andratx in the south west of the island.

From Andratx take the C710 and follow the signs for Estellencs and Soller. The road will begin to climb and you'll be following a road that twists and turns through pine woods. After approximatley 5kms you catch the first glimpse of the beautiful mediterranean sea and the foot of the cliffs on your lefthand side.  The road will continue to hug the cliff top, you will pass through 2 tunnels on you way to Estellencs.

If you fancy it, shortly before the second tunnel you can pull into the Mirador de Ricardo Roca and climb the steps to the look out point which will give you spectucular views across the north coast of the island. There is a small café here which makes a great place to stop off for a coffe and also to enjoy the view.

Estellences is a pretty village that has around 400 people living there, with its stone houses and cobble streets it is typically Mallorcan village. It has a few restaurants, bars and finca boutique hotels. There is a great path that leads you through orange groves down to a small cove with a shingle beach.

Once back in the car you need to continue on the C710 for about another 7 kms until you see the circular watch tower of Torres de Ses Animes on your left, a short way past the watch tower there is a scenic parking area (signposted with a camera) where you can stop and take some amazing pictures of the terraces and stone walls of the fields out side Banyalbufar. Continue on to Banyalbufar and drive along the main street.

There are some lovely restaurants where you can stop off for lunch and enjoy the  mallorca cuisine. Leave the village of Banyalbufar behind and contine on the C710, the road will leave the coast behind and will start heading inland, when the C710 turns left to Soller, don't turn off head towards Palma and follow the signs to Esporles.

Once again you'll drive through beautiful countryside dotted with olive, almond, orange and lemon groves. This pretty little village is quite small and has a few bars and restaurants, as well as an excellent local market on a Saturday where the whole village turns out.

Make sure that you keep an eye out for a sign post for Es Verger and La Posada de Marques hotel, the road will be on your left hand side which will take you up a small road. The road wil take you up quite steeply into the hills above Esporles, follow the road through the countryside and continue to follow the signs for la Posada del Marques.

Once you reach this stunning hotel you'll understand why you drove all the way up that hill. It’s a great place to stop of for dinner. Why not enjoy the views from the restaurant terrace while you tuck into some amazing food and experience the summer set menu that changes with the produce that is on offer from the local markets.

Duration: 2 hours
